What to expect on Rupina La Pass Trek?

Most of the adventure requires appreciable mountain fitness, but it doesn't demand any technical climbing gear. The trekkers will witness glorious views of the Langtang, Ganesh, Manaslu, and Annapurna ranges, up close, of the Buddha Himal, Gorkha Himal, and Himalchuli. The trail passes through a variety of landscapes-the Budhi Gandaki River Valley, terraced fields, pastures, and dense forests. You will come to know the welcoming culture of various ethnic villages like Barpak with Gurung, Ghale, and other indigenous communities. This trek is off the beaten trail and will provide an experience steeped in peace and authenticity, offering teahouses and homestays to accommodate travelers, especially in Barpak, known for its homestays in Nepal. Though the whole route doesn't pass through conservation areas or national parks, it still presents good populations of wildlife, birds, and various kinds of vegetation. The trek is a year-round affair, but actual conditions are season-dependent.

The biodiversity is extraordinary on the Rupina La and Larkey Pass trek.

A variety of plant and animal life flourish as one traverses diverse ecological zones. During the lower elevations, the path takes you through dense and lush forests made up of rhododendrons, oaks, pines, and bamboo. With the blooming of rhododendrons, which spring paints on a warm vivacious touch of color to the trek, these forests assume a rich green hue.
As the altitude increases, the vegetation slowly dissipates. You will come across alpine shrubs and stubborn wildflowers in addition to hardy mosses clinging to the rocky ground, all well adapted to a colder, harsher environment. These meadows and pastures, with high-altitude beauty, present an unyielding contrast to the flourishing tropical forests lying at lower elevations.
The trek also takes you through cultivated areas occupied by locals working terraced fields of maize, wheat, barley, and millet. These cultivated lands set against spectacular mountains backdrops provide a glimpse into the nature of traditional rural life in the area.
The fauna consists of an assortment of wildlife, including pheasants, eagles, and the colorful national bird of Nepal, the Himalayan monal. In the more remote areas, it would be lucky for you to catch the glisten of langurs (Himalayan monkeys), the rarer than rare Himalayan thar, and musk deer.
In addition, insects include a most amiable kin of multitudinous varieties of butterflies that benefit a glowing elegance to the whole trek. This carries the diversity into a greater trekking insight besides expounding on the grandeur mountain view; it creates closeness to nature.

Traveling in Adventure and Solitude in the High Passes of the Rupina La and Larke of the Manaslu Region.

The Rupina La and the Larke Pass trek would bring forth adventure and solitude-a wreath of such experiences which will be hardly found in others. These two passes of high-altitude Rupina La and Larke Pass are some of the most isolated wilderness areas and thrilling trekking routes in the region. They push you to your very limit and reward you with breathtaking views of the towering Himalayan giants-Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and Annapurna.
It was a rugged trek that covers steep climbs, dense forest, deep river valleys, and snow-capped Alpine wasteland. The journey traverses different and changing environments and adds to its adventure, with every step providing a challenge. These isolated trails mean fewer trekkers; thus, solitude and a sense of connection to nature are heightened, marking it an ideal trek for those looking to venture far away from beaten paths.
The trek is fit for any physically experienced hiker as long as he/she is fit and not in need of technical climbing skills, allowing the adventurer to get a remote and rewarding trekking experience within the Manaslu region.

Expectation on the weather, local famous dishes, life, and other facilities

The weather in Rupina La Pass trek may vary greatly according to the season. Spring (March-May) is the optimal time for trekking, with daytime temperatures between 10°C-20°C (50°F-68°F), colder nights, occasional rhododendron blooms, and clean and clear skies. Summer (June-August) becomes more of the monsoon season, bringing rainfall, with occupation where water rises in July and August between 15°C-25°C (59°F-77°F). The terrain can be muddy and slippery, with the risk of a few low-lying clouds. autumn (September-November) serves as another fantastic trekking season since the temperatures are moderate, with daytime temperatures between 10°C-20°C (50°F-68°F), and the skies are clearer for a spectacular view. On the contrary, the winters (December-February) have their charms enough to contract the temperatures well below freezing at higher altitudes, coupled with snowmaking trekking difficult but endearing, because snow-capped views become treks' lures.

Trekkers are hoping to balance their daily expectations of local Nepali culinary culture, such as dal bhat, which constitutes lentil soup served with rice, vegetable curry, and seasonal greens, and momo or thukpa could be enjoyed on the side. Plenty of teahouses serve international dishes like pasta, fried rice, and pancakes-and snacks like nuts, energy bars, and chocolate, are also available. Well-known "hot" drinks like tea, coffee, and hot cocoa are widely available, while some areas serve native brews chang (rice beer). Basic teahouses and homestays make up most accommodation for villages such as Barpak. Teahouses will offer beds and meals, but generally learners have shared bathrooms with just basic amenities. Homestays allow full cultural experience, with local families welcoming trekkers to interact and take part in local lifestyles. In short, accommodation is basic but comfy and cozy enough to warm you from another day's shipwreck while you remain in the local tented camps.

19 Days Rupina La Pass Trek Itinerary and Cost

The Rupina La Pass Trek is a generous 19-day trek, starting with a drive out from Kathmandu to Barpak, a quaint village mainly inhabited by the Gurung people. These hardy and brave people, who, apart from agriculture, maintained military professions, served with many as an example of the British Gorkha Regiment. On arrival in Barpak, we begin our trek up to Dharche Hill, from where the views of the majestic mountains unfold and set the tone for the beginning of our adventure.
After enjoying the beautiful views from the viewpoint, we continue trekking along the ridge, completely surrounded by beautiful scenery. The trail guides us through the green foothills to the base camp as we ascend above the tree line. Here at camp, our trekking team will provide tents for our accommodation, while our chef prepares delicious meals that will allow us to unwind taking in the dramatic mountain scenery that surrounds us.
Crossing the Rupina La Pass is no easy task, but it is highly rewarding. The highest point is 4,720 meters; hence it offers pristine views of the mighty Himalayas. After ascending the Rupina, we will carry on trekking down to the base camp of Boudha Himal. This part of the trek involves crossing the big glaciers of Rani and Gorkha peaks offering spectacular vistas that add to the entire charm of this trek.
The scenery we traverse here is extraordinary, being scarcely, if ever, encountered in the Himalayas of other treks. Then we continue on and cross over from the Rupina La base camp to Rupina La Pass, thereafter making our way down to Myachet at an altitude of 3,800 meters, where we link up to the main trail to Samdo and join the Larke Pass trek leading to Bhimthang and Dharapani. Rupina La Pass Trek is an interlocking 19 days itinerary with costs attached to it. This includes our return drive to Kathmandu from the trek, reminiscing upon all the experiences and views that one has taken in along the route. The high altitude meadow is the perfect place to relax and rejoice the beauty of the mountaintops before you retreat to the warmth of your tent for some goodnight sleep.

Moving on, the journey from Lambra Kharka to Mircha Khola should take you about 7 hours, ascending up to 3,300 meters above sea level. The trail becomes more and more strenuous and takes you on an adventurous path isolated from human settlement. As you reach Mircha Khola, you will set up camp by the river where you can fall asleep to the sound of the flowing river after good trek during the day..

Departing from Mircha Khola onwards for the Rupina, at an altitude of 3,400 meters based on the time estimate of around 6 hours, becomes nocturne. Moving from an altitude on steep slopes to some rugged alpine terrain puts the trek at a Vibrant Altitude parameter. While you cross the rocky paths, glacial streams on your way, you shall also skirt around the awesome mountain ridges. The scenery, of snow-peaked mountains, unfolds immediately as one starts to realize a diminished benevolence of oxygen at the base camp. Surrounded by towering hills, the Rupona La base camp is stationed at a level of the pending ascent to the pass. You will pitch your tents for the night when you arrive at the base camp, preparing to cross over to the next pass. It maintains a calm yet enkindling air, with umpteen memories hovering for you to glimpse through open eyes.
The trek takes you from Rupina La base Camp to Rupina La Pass at an elevation of 4,720 meters. It is quite steep, rocky, and often snow-covered but sufficiently good in fulfilling the desires of reality with early starters. From the top, you will enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding Himalayan Peaks and great glaciers. Trekking will descend towards Myachet at 3,800 meters towards Myachet. Some steep and uneven paths take care to negotiate before these become rolling hills and alpine meadows. After 8 to 9 hours walking, you will set your camp in Myachet, surrounded by a diurnal wilderness to hear the sounds of nature and mountains, reflecting on the day's adventure while under stars.

The trek from Myachet to Chongchet 3220m.Generally the trek goes down about 6 hours and in elevation of 3,220 meters. Throughout the day, you will traverse from the more barren high alpine terrain into the luscious, greener valley landscape with tress and grasses, making it a perfect combination. Rocky and sometimes slippery paths will guide you down and you will cross a few streams and more wide views will become limited due to hidden valleys. Each step downwards will bring you warmer and clearer air to breathe from surrounding cliffs as well. It is not uncommon to see local wildlife including Himalayan blue sheep and many different birds in the area and you might even meet yak and sheepherders in the lower areas. The path, although much less steep than the previous days, requires a steady foot in certain areas but you will have much more time to enjoy your surroundings. Regardless, one may find a good pace with solid footing and may actually find it easier than the last two days. At night, we will either rest in a river side camp or hike up to the next field under the stars with a complete silence pure Himalayan air, a good end to a less intense day of trekking.

An easy walk and a great daily warm up before Namdu. The trek from Chongchet to Sherang Kharka takes about 6 hours with a descent to 3,050 meters. There is a gradual walk along dense forest and rolling hills with a few open meadows to walk through. The constantly changing forest is mixed with more beautiful hidden valleys and distant views of the lower valley. The hike through the trees and grass is quite refreshing with a cooling surrounding and a mix of animal sounds and bird chirping. It is a good warm long walk around the thick foliage even though sometimes the distances in between each small town is longer. The vegetation is much more green and humid and the moment you reach Sherang Kharka your next camp, and into a wetter environment, your tent up and your night sleeping spot will seem much more relaxing. The highlight of the evening, no doubt, will be the perfect harmony that surrounds the small vally, afterwards.. rest is history your tent.

from Sherang Kharka to Ngyak 2200m now descending to altitude of 2200 meters. Our trail will go via descending through the green and lush forests and terrace farming at the hillside boundaries. The air will be warmer and humid. But, the clear skies will provide us regular views of the river valleys below and some of the villages on the irregular clearings down through the hillside. Some of the trails here may be quite steep many of them are mostly gentle down slopes allowing for very good time to relax and enjoy this trek as a walk in the middle of the beautiful surroundings. This trail is a little used and less even better trek because of its more relaxed nature and the scenic beauty of the different landscapes. Overnight at a cozy lodge–tea house in Ngyak.

Trek from Ngyak to Namrung takes 6-7 hours of walk including drink and meals break. This trail is mostly gentle as it heads closer to gateway to the peaks. It is a pleasant walk and it’s even more attention grabbing. We trek and keep walking until we see the tallest peaks on the route including Larkya Peak. All in one this trek worth hiking for. We can see the amazing mountain views during the days hike. Today we walk from 2200 meters to about 2630 meters. The scenery is enchanting. And along the trail pass by many places along the ridge first and then through the main narrow valley to the first Gurung village called Lihi at 2840m. Namrung our destination for the night will be in close proximity to the Lho village from here. At Namrung we find flat for our camping. Today we walk through the narrow trail all the way to the touching the ridgelines and at times the valley. The mountain views should definitely distract us from the tiring days walk. The forest along the trail towards the campsite is compelling with the shepherds telling the tune of birds in the air. Where song birds unaware of their beautiful tunes continue to provided music that we come across in this early days of the trek however find hard to spot many times. Overnight at lodge provided by a local family.

Early in the morning, tighten up your shoelaces to get ready for a trek from Namrung to Samagaon. The trek takes about six to seven hours, with a final challenging climb that ascends to an altitude of 3,360 meters in the reliefs. The trek meanders through lush forests, rocky paths, and terraced fields, with stunning mountain views and glimpses of local life in charming villages. It is a pleasant trek with gentle ascents and descents. After arrival in Samagaon, you will be accommodated in a comfortable lodge or tea house. The path is arduous and steep, and such breathtaking sights unfold of the impressive mountain peaks, glaciers, and the stunning landscape of the Manaslu region.
