Everest Base Camp Trek by Road

Everest Base Camp trek by road with Jeep offers a more accessible alternative to the traditional route, making this iconic trekking experience available to those who may not be able to fly to the usual starting point. This 16 day trek follows the classic trail to the base of Mount Everest 8,848.86m (29,031ft), with overnight stays in charming Sherpa villages.
The foremost difference between this 16 day itinerary and the standard 15 day Everest Base Camp trek is that it reduces the need for the often overwhelming Lukla flight. Instead, you'll drive from Kathmandu to Sallei and Phaplu, continuing to Thamdanda, where your trek begins. From here, it's just two days of walking to reach Phakding, where you will join the legendary Everest Base Camp trekking route.
    • Embark on a Jeep trek to Everest Base Camp, bypassing the hassle of flight delays or cancellations and avoiding the often overwhelming Lukla flight from Kathmandu.
    • Immerse yourself in the beauty of Sherpa villages and experience their daily lifestyle up close. Trek through lush rhododendron and pine forests along the Dudh Koshi River, and cross hanging suspension bridges numerous times throughout the journey.
    • Discover ancient monasteries such as Tengboche and Pangboche, and take in diverse landscapes with stunning mountain views, including five of the top ten highest peaks in the world.
    • Enjoy adventurous side hikes, where you'll witness breathtaking sunrises and panoramic mountain vistas.
    • As you trek along the Khumbu Glacier, passing glacier moraine, you'll approach the base of the highest mountain on Earth, Mt. Everest. Finally, experience a jaw-dropping mountain panorama from the iconic viewpoint of Kala Patthar.

Prime Time for the Everest Base Camp Trek by Road.

Ultimate times for the Everest Base Camp trek by road are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). In spring, as temperatures rise, the backdrop comes alive with blossoming flowers and lively colors. The paths are lined with rhododendron blossoms, generating a spectacular framework as you journey towards Everest Base Camp. The days are pleasurably warm, and the nights are relatively mild, making for comfortable trekking conditions.
Autumn is another excellent season for the road trek to Everest Base Camp. After the monsoon rains, the skies clear, revealing spectacular views of the surrounding peaks. The air is crispy, visibility is outstanding, and the trekking trails are in perfect condition. This season offers a perfect atmosphere for a remarkable trek, free from the disruption of rain or snow.
For those looking for a additional adventurous experience, the Everest Base Camp trek without the Lukla flight can also be undertaken in January and February, though with caution. These winter months bring colder temperatures and the possibility of snowfall, particularly at higher elevations. However, if the weather cooperates, trekking during this time offers a sole experience with fewer crowds and a serene mountain landscape draped in snow.

From there, a challenging uphill hike through the forest will take you to Namche Bazaar in about two to three hours. Namche is an excellent spot to acclimate during the 16-day Everest Base Camp trek without flying to Lukla. As the main hub of the Khumbu Region, it offers a range of amenities, including government offices, Internet cafés, ATMs, restaurants, and shops. Health experts recommend staying active on rest days rather than remaining idle. Therefore, you can spend the day hiking to Thamo or Khunde, or you can trek up to Khumjung village from the Everest View Hotel in Syangbuche.Your guide will also take you to the Sagarmatha National Park Visitor Center, where you can learn about Sherpa culture, the first Everest climbers, and the unique flora and fauna of the Everest Region.

Trekking to Tengboche on the sixth day of the Everest Base Camp Trek provides breathtaking views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Lhotse, and Everest. The trail descends through an alpine forest to Phungi Tenga after crossing the Dudh Koshi in around three to four hours. En route, it passes two trail crossovers, one from Gokyo Lake and the other from Khumjung. Look out for Monals and Himalayan Thar as you make your way through the forest. After that, you'll arrive at Tengboche Monastery, a hill station with stunning views of Mount Lhotse, Mount Everest, and Ama Dablam. Stay the night in this tranquil monastery village and take in the views of the mountains outside your window.

As the trail climbs to an ancient Buddhist Chorten, you'll enter Pangboche town, where the view of Ama Dablam is impressively close.
From there, it's a steady three-hour walk along the tree line and small shrubs to reach the scenic village of Somare. After another two to three hours, you'll arrive at Dingboche, taking in stunning views along the way. Given the high altitude and the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness, it's advisable to check your oxygen levels with the oximeter provided by our guide before continuing.

On the second rest day of the Everest Base Camp Trek by Jeep, you'll focus on acclimatization. After checking in at the guesthouse and leaving your belongings there, you'll hike for about 2 to 3 hours to reach Base Camp.
Be sure to pack enough water, wear warm clothing, bring a flashlight, and carry any necessary gear. During the spring season, you'll find many expedition groups at Everest Base Camp. As you explore the Khumbu Glacier, take in the stunning mountain scenery and observe the Khumbu Icefall. While you can't see Mount Everest itself from Base Camp, the surrounding peaks are breathtaking. You'll then return to Gorakshep for overnight lodging.

You'll likely stop for lunch at Phungi Thanga after a four-hour trek. Then, continue for another three hours to Namche Bazaar, where you'll spend the night at a teahouse.

The trek from Namche Bazaar to Chaurikharka will take around 6 to 7 hours. Once you arrive at the teahouse in Chaurikharka, you have the option to travel to Lukla, just 20 minutes away, if you're interested in visiting the world's most dangerous airport.
